What were the best baits of 2020? Which baits caught the biggest fish? Which baits caught the most? We were blessed with a bunch of great fish catches this year as we traveled around the country. Come along as we look back on some of the best catches of the year and the great baits that fooled the fish into biting.

Some of our best baits continue to produce year after year. Others are brand new, but stood out from the crowd this year. Some of these baits made the list because they consistently caught big fish while others made the list because we could rely on them to get bit when nothing else was working. We constantly try new gear, new baits, and new patterns. These are the best of the best of 2020 that are worth a try the next time you’re on the water.

Reel Review – Shimano Metanium MGL 150 B (2020 Shimano Metanium)

The 2020 Metanium MGL 150 B is an awesome new reel from Shimano! We put it through the paces the past few months before weighing in with a review. With requests pouring in, its time to share our experiences. In a word, this reel is AWESOME!

Aside from the Metanium name, the reel is hardly recognizable when compared to its former counterparts. The Metanium MGL has reached new heights with features like a Magnesium frame, CoreSolid body (1 piece frame), and an MGL III Spool. The reel itself feels very similar to the Bantam but is several ounces lighter. The finished product is light weight, incredibly strong, and ultra smooth.

After fishing these reels hard for months we’ve seen no reduction in performance. They’re as smooth as the day we opened the boxes, if not smoother. We’ve been using this reel for “finesse power” techniques. These are cross over techniques where you need the ability to throw light baits but you still need torque and power after you get the bite. It shines for jigs, small to mid-size crankbaits, keitechs, topwater, spinnerbaits, dock fishing, etc.

New Kayak Review! Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136!

This kayak just won “Best Of Show” At ICAST 2020, let’s look at why! When we heard the Sportsman Autopilot 136 had an Ultrex trolling motor and could “spot lock” to hold position so we didn’t have to paddle the kayak constantly, we knew we had to have it! Come along as Tim takes it for a spin on the water, looks at the features, and shows how to operate the motor.

This is a top of the line kayak! Its incredibly stable, has room to stand, walk, and enough stability to fish from virtually any position. We’ve had it out in big waves, heavy winds, and have had the opportunity to catch some great big bass from these boats. If you’re upgrading to a larger kayak or considering adding a trolling motor to an existing kayak, you should give this a look.

The 13’6″ version (136) retails for $3999 while the smaller 12′ version (120) retails for $3799. This is a serious investment for an entry level kayaker but is a no brainer for a bass angler coming down from a bass boat. As bass boat angler’s we’ve already fallen in love with the spot lock feature of the Ultrex trolling motor and know there is no going back. Having this same feature in a kayak gives us the ability to go farther, stay more stable in rough water, and most importantly, focus on the fishing instead of the positioning.
