My Wife Bought A Boat! Full Tour of CC's New (Used) Boat – Complete DIY Restoration!

Our wives love to fish! CC already had an older Ranger bass boat but she needed a larger platform. She upgraded to a used Champion 198 this Winter and has been working on DIY projects to dial it in all Spring. When she got the boat it was stripped, leaving room to rig it any way her heart desired. Come along as she gives a full tour, showing every detail of how she chose to rig this boat. From the Ultrex 112 trolling motor to brand new electronics and accessories throughout, she did it right!

Buying a bass boat can be a very stressful time. For the angler buying a new boat, you’re faced with the anxiety of selecting from a handful of electronics options, color schemes, engine sizes, etc. For the angler purchasing a used boat, you’re faced with fears of reliability and hidden damage. For both groups, it can be an incredible experience if you have a little confidence about what you’re looking for. If you’re considering a used boat purchase, this video will tell you everything you need to look for before committing to buy: https://youtu.be/cZtbnWpl4uI

After making a purchase the next step is to dial the boat in so you feel like its your own. This may involve big purchases like a new motor, shallow water anchors, or seats. It could also just be as simple as a few stickers that make it feel personal. When CC purchased her boat it was stripped. There was no trolling motor, electronics, batteries, charger, etc… She had a blank slate to work with and over the course of a few months we were able to buy and install all the parts and pieces to make it her own.

Below are a list of the parts and equipment that were upgraded. We’ll follow the course of the video so we’ll begin in the stern and work our way to the bow.

Tackle Organization: How We Store Our Gear – New Ideas!

Its time for serious tackle organization! We’ve all been hit by this unexpected quarantine and we chose to make the best of it. Tim spent a few days dialing in his gear and he’s finally got it perfected. Want to get the maximum number of crankbaits in a small box? Want to mix senkos with hooks while avoiding any concerns of rust? Tired of your different hooks mixing together every time you run in rough water? This is for you!

Tim started playing with the Edge boxes when they first came out but it wasn’t until the quarantine that he really jumped in. The Edge Terminal box offered storage solutions unlike anything else. By individually compartmentalizing all his small hooks he has avoided the never-ending struggle of hooks mixing together. The box itself resists rust and was a no-brainer with all the free time to organize hooks. From there he began finding niches for all of his tackle storage needs.

Below is a breakdown of some of Tim’s favorite boxes for different techniques. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions. If you’ve been considering upgrading your tackle organization, we’re very happy with these boxes so far.

DIY Boat Project: How To Install A Keel Guard (Its Easy, No More Excuses)

This boat got trashed! The previous owners didn’t bother to install a keel guard and the gel coat damage is really severe. There are hundreds of nicks and gouges from the boat hitting logs and rocks. A few of the gouges were so bad Matt had to repair them before we could even do a keel guard install! But that’s all behind us now, today we’re installing a Keel Guard (the quick and easy way) so we never have to worry about damage to the keel again!

Its amazing how many anglers we know that aren’t using a keel guard. They all know they should but they’re unclear on how to do the install so they don’t bother with it. Unfortunately some of those same friends have ended up with costly insurance claims after running aground, hitting logs, etc. Today I’m demonstrating the installation alone to show how easy it really is. This can be installed by one person in less than an hour.

Below you’ll find links to both brands of Keel Guard that we’ve used over the years. We are not brand specific and to date, have yet to have an issue with either version. The length of Keel Guard is based on the length of your boat and the links below to Tackle Warehouse will include recommendations based on boat length.

-Gator Guards Keel Guard: https://bit.ly/2YsD8zc

Girl Fishing: Spring Jerkbait and Swimbait Fishing For Bass!

Tonya and CC are back on the lake for an awesome day of fishing! Come along with the girls on CC’s new bass boat! These two take their bass fishing very seriously, Tonya is throwing a jerkbait and CC is throwing an A-Rig loaded with Keitech swimbaits. They find a school of big ones feeding on shad and load the boat, you don’t want to miss it!

In the midst of catching big bass the girls take the time to share some really key tips for shallow water fishing and dialing in your equipment. CC struggled with the A-Rig in the past but she’s discovered that shortening her leader and making some key reel adjustments has made all the difference. This isn’t just watching women who fish, these girls know what they’re doing and can help you dial in your fishing as well!

Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment the ladies are using in today’s video. From rods and reels to specifics on the baits, all the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions for all the items.

Tim Flips His Kayak In COLD Water!! Spring Bass Fishing FAIL!

Tim paddled out into Clearlake in search of big bass. He got more than he bargained for! He started out catching a few fish on a post-front afternoon with a light chop but it changed in a second when a boat wake caught him from behind. Thankfully he was wearing his life jacket but his gear wasn’t so lucky!

Despite the cold swim, the video starts with some Spring fishing tips as Tim works his way along the bank. He switches between a lipless crankbait, a worm, and a small underspin swimbait in search of bass on what proves to be a very tough afternoon. Not knowing what was to come he catches a nice bass, followed by a crappie. The most important bit of information you can glean from this video is to always wear your life jacket!!

We’ve been guilty of taking our life jackets off from time to time, just like everyone else. This is a serious reminder of how quickly the situation can change! Tim never saw the wave coming and in a blink he was in the water. Temperatures were in the 50’s and he was no where near shore when it happened. If not for a passing boater the situation could have been much more dangerous. In the end, Tim lost 4 rod and reel combos, a new IPhone, two GoPro 8’s, and a lot of tackle. Oops!

Below are links to some of our more successful kayak outings, including Matt catching a 10 lber from the yak! We also included links to the baits Tim was throwing prior to flipping the kayak, and links to the exact inflatable life jackets that we wear on the boat because they’re incredible comfortable and low profile.

DIY Boat Project: The First Upgrade I Make To Every Boat!

Today we’re doing a simple project that every fishing boat on the market should do. Boat Buckles are a retractable rod strap that hold your fishing rods in place when the boat is moving and conveniently store inside the gunwale when you stop. Most used boats have bungee straps or old velcro straps and are desperately in need of an upgrade. Watch step by step as Matt installs a set of Boat Buckle straps.

We just picked up CC’s new boat, a used Champion 198. Any time you purchase used boats you know there will be some work involved. The Boat Buckles are just the beginning as we plan to upgrade the batteries, trolling motor, electronics, and wiring in the coming weeks. We do these first because its a mandatory upgrade on all our boats, its relatively inexpensive, and can be done very quickly with minimal tools.

A lot of anglers are afraid to work on their own boats. There is something taboo about pulling off a motor cowling and going to work. While some jobs really do need a boat mechanic, a job like this can be done quickly and easily at home. Below are links to the parts we used for this upgrade. Also linked if you’re curious are the additional upgrades we’ll be doing to the rest of the boat.

**Be sure to add the concealment kit if you want your buckles mounted on the inside of the hull like we did on this boat**
