Early spring Pre-Spawn Wisconsin Crappie Fishing (Surprise Catch)

Fishing for crappie in the spring is almost every angler’s favorite thing to do. Crappie transition from their deep winter basins to shallow spawning flats throughout the months of April and May in Wisconsin and Minnesota. This transition is determined strictly by water temperature. In this video, water temperature was in the low 40 degrees and the crappie were still suspended in deepest part of this river system.

This video shows the afternoon fishing trip with myself and Ken from HookCityTV. We used the Garmin Livescope to find crappie submerged brush piles and large rock piles while trying to catch the largest fish in the school. Our Crappie setup consisted of the 12ft ACC Crappie Stix jig rod, 1000 size reels, and 2 inch swimbaits. I was setting the hook on so many crappie that when I switched hands to adjust the livescope, I set the hook on the livescope!

Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks (Early Pre-spawn Crappie Fishing)

In this video I demonstrate how to find late winter, early spring crappie on Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri. I also show the New Crappie Monster Outlaw net in action while spider rigging and vertically jigging for white crappie that are suspended in the middle of the creek channels this time of the year.

Catching Crappie in a Cold Front | Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks

A cold front moved in on Day 5 of our Lake of the Ozarks Crappie fishing trips with temperatures falling below 20 degrees. We found a few schools of crappie, but most were very tight lipped. The technique that caught most of our crappie was slowly trolling between speeds of 0.1-0.3mph.
My Setup:
16ft ACC Crappie Stix trolling rods
8lb monofilament line
two 1/4 oz jigs
2inch crappie monster plastics
