Crappie fishing a heated dock

Due to cold temps (14F) I decided to fish for crappie in the heated dock system at Point View Resort on Lake of the Ozarks. I use the dock shooter rod by ACC Crappie Stix and a hair jig by PICO lures to land a few crappie during an early morning fishing session.

(SURPRISE CATCH) While Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks


In this video of Crappie fishing Lake of the Ozarks, Kyler Beckman and Davis Lenzen (Flopping Crappie) use a crappie fishing tactic called spider rigging to catch scattered, suspended crappie during February. Early Pre-Spawn crappie will suspend in the deepest parts of feeder creeks or finger bays during the late winter / early spring months with water tempratures ranging from mid 30s to low 40s. Spider rigging is great crappie rig setup to catch these scattered fish on the edges of creek channels. Varying your lures is key to finding what the fish will bite, our setup ranged from minnows to 2 or 3 inch plastics that imitated shad.

Use Side Imaging to find Pre Spawn Crappie | Crappie fishing Lake of the Ozarks


In this video I explore new water on lake of the Ozarks in search of pre-spawn crappie. During the early part of the pre-spawn season, crappie will suspend near the mouths (around points) and in the middle of creek channels. Side Imaging is must when trying to find these suspended fish, crappie will show up as bright dots or short lines. Fish are easiest to spot when scanning over a soft bottom (mud/muck) like the middle of creek channels.

Catching 11lbs of SLAB Crappie | Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks


On Day 3 of the Lake of the Ozarks crappie fishing trip, Kyler Beckmann and Davis Lenzen (Flopping Crappie) spider rig the edges of creek channels to find the pre-spawn crappie feeding on shad. They used milk and chartreuse colored jigs while trolling at speeds between 0.1-0.7mph to trigger these slab crappie to strike.

Catching FAT Pre-Spawn Crappie 10+LBS! | Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks


In this video, Kyler Beckmann and Davis Lenzen (Flopping Crappie) use a crappie fishing technique called spider rigging to catch pre-spawn crappie. They fished between 9-13 ft of water using 1/4oz jigs tipped with milk and chartreuse colored plastic lures. Spider rigging is a great way to cover large amounts of water, especially when fishing for scattered pre-spawn crappie.

What do Crappie eat in Cold, Dirty Water (COLOR CHALLENGE) | Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks


This video explains what type of plastic lure crappie will eat, also how and where to find crappie during the early spring (pre-spawn) phase of the season. Kyler Beckmann and Davis Lenzen (Flopping Crappie) spider rig for early spring crappie on Lake of Ozarks. After a few hours they determined that Chartreuse and Milk color patterns were working the best of all the baits used that day, so they decided to put the best baits to the test in a head-to-head color challenge. They use 1/4oz. jig heads tipped with 2 inch and 3 inch shad profile crappie plastics. They learned that both colors can catch fish, however bait profile is the more important. During this time of year, water temps are below 40 degrees. This causes shad (bait fish) to become lethargic, which makes an easy meal for a crappie. Mimicking the shad profile will help an angler catch more crappie throughout a day on the water.

Catching Crappie in a Cold Front | Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks


A cold front moved in on Day 5 of our Lake of the Ozarks Crappie fishing trips with temperatures falling below 20 degrees. We found a few schools of crappie, but most were very tight lipped. The technique that caught most of our crappie was slowly trolling between speeds of 0.1-0.3mph.
