Jig Fishing Tricks For Fall and Winter Bass Fishing

Catching bass with jigs is really easy! You can do it, and we’re going to help! A few jigs, a few trailers, and you’re ready to adapt to anything Fall bass fishing brings your way. Pay close attention to how we adapt the jigs to changing conditions and you’ll be ready to start catching fish on your next trip.

When it comes to jigs, Fall is all about finesse. Lighter hooks and lighter line are the keys to getting consistent bites. Matt prefers football jigs this time of year and focuses on a few basic colors and sizes. Its important to adapt with changing conditions but Matt finds its easier (and cheaper) to change trailers and trailer colors rather than carrying dozens of jigs styles and colors.

Below is a breakdown of his simplified jig fishing method. There are a total of 4 jigs and 6 trailer styles. If you listen closely and analyze your fishery you should only need 2-3 jigs and 3-4 trailers to adapt to anything your fishery can throw at you this Fall. Summer Fishing For Bass with Jigs, Creature Baits, and Plastic Worms!

Summer fishing is easy if you know where to look! Today Matt’s Dad joins us as we target bass near deep water with 3 key summertime techniques. If you want to catch more bass, pay close attention to how the guys use the shaky head worm, jig, and wobble head creature bait to locate bass and dial in the pattern!

The guys haven’t been on Clearlake for months but they start catching fish immediately. If you struggle to find Summer bass, we recommend you go back and revisit our “Where Do Bass Go In Summer” video (linked below). Today the guys targeted chunk rock in 5-15 feet of water but the key was finding these areas with quick access to deep water. If you could find that scenario, the fish were always present. They knew they could get bit on a shaky head and a jig but once fish started coming in the boat, the wobble head was employed to get the bigger bite.

All 3 of these are simple techniques to use and they will work on your local water. Focus on the shaky head worm to find a consistent bite. Of the 3 techniques, it is the easiest to get bit on day in and day out. If your fish are dialed in on eating crawdads switch to the jig and you’ll almost always see the size of the fish increase. Once you’ve located fish on hard bottom, the wobble head is an incredible technique for catching those “kicker fish” you’re looking for. It will cover water quickly, get big bites, and is very snag resistant.

Below are related videos you should check out, followed by links to all of the baits and equipment used in today’s video. We’ve even included color recommendations for each item. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Shallow Water Finesse Fishing For Summer Bass: Senko, Shaky Head, Swim Jig

The bass are in less than 2 feet of water! How would you catch them? We turned to “junk fishing” to get the bites. A mix of swim jigs, weightless senkos, and a shaky head did the trick. Come along and watch how we break down a new section of Lake Chickamauga, build a pattern, and locate quality fish despite difficult conditions.

Summer bass fishing overwhelms a lot of anglers. Knowing how and when to adapt is difficult until you understand fish movements. Once you understand that half the fish go to offshore structure while the other half focus on shallow cover you will find their behavior more predictable. When the water gets really hot the fish will focus on shade for relief, even when that shade is ultra shallow.

Today we intended to fish offshore structure but the wind had other plans. As the waves we picked up we knew the only option was to focus on the ultra shallow bite. Don’t let Summer heat or changing conditions keep you off the water. Focus on the basics and you’ll find consistent fish in the heat. Below you’ll find a breakdown of the exact baits we threw to target these shallow water fish. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Bass Fishing: Finesse Tips For Fishing Crystal Clear Water!

Struggling to catch bass in crystal clear water? Come along with Tim for a day of clear water bass fishing. He shows the finesse baits he’s using and explains how he downsizes line to adapt to the water conditions. Pay close attention to his color selections and bait sizes as he lures fish into biting despite the tough conditions.

Tim’s first trick to catch clear water fish was to focus on shade pockets. Often the “last shade” in an area will have an active group of fish long after sunny areas have stopped biting. He used a ghost colored S-Waver then dropped down to a finesse head and smaller keitech to coax the bites.

Once the last shade faded away he turned his attention to fishing the “color line” along the shore where light penetration is limited by depth. The color line is an amazing place to find active fish under bright sunny conditions. Finally, after not getting the results he hoped for Tim moved ultra shallow into cover in search of afternoon bass in shady pockets near brush. Today he found those fish spawning but could have caught them a variety of ways under normal circumstances.

Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment he used throughout the day. In addition to the exact baits we’ve included additional color recommendations that work great in clear water. How Fish React To Different Jigs!!! Underwater Bite Footage!!

The strikes are violent! We headed underwater with a variety of jigs to see how different bass would react. Largemouth and Smallmouth both aggressively attack a jig with tenacity rarely seen with other lures. Depending on how you rig it, a jig can imitate a crawdad, a bluegill, or a variety of other prey species. Watch how these different fish attack everything from a large pitchin’ jig down to the smallest of finesse football jigs.
Do you fish a jig? Some anglers love them, others struggle to find consistent success. After watching how these fish react, its clear that a jig should have a permanent place in your arsenal! Two keys to a jig’s effectiveness are its adaptability and its weedless characteristics. With a handful of different head designs a jig can be adapted virtually any circumstance.
Pay close attention to which jigs and trailers these fish were most aggressive with. Also pay attention to which retrieves/hops triggered the most aggressive bites. Below is a breakdown of all the baits and trailers used in the video (In order of appearance), along with color recommendations for each. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see close up photos of each item.
