Buyer's Guide: Best $500 Rod and Reel Combos!

$500 Combos are the best “Bang For The Buck” in the entire industry! Some of these rods should be priced hundreds of dollars higher but thankfully, they remain very affordable. If you’re looking to take your angling to the next level, any of these rod and reel combos will help you do it. From the Shimano Expride’s incredible sensitivity, to the Megabass Orochi’s incredible actions, there is something at this price point for every angler!

Every time you move up in price, you gain sensitivity and longevity. The jump in quality from $400 combos to $500, is the biggest increase at any price point in bass fishing. Some of these rods skip right over the middle and function as truly high-end rods. You won’t find a more sensitive rod than an Expride without spending $400 or more! You won’t find more refined components than on an Orochi at nearly any price. And you won’t find more dialed, technique specific actions, than on the IMX-Pros.

Below you’ll find links to the 6 lines of rods we recommend, along with all of our top choices by technique. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Winter Bass Fishing: Finesse Tips To Keep Catching Fish!

Winter is coming fast! If your fish disappear as the water gets cold, there is hope! Over the years we’ve found a handful of key baits that get bit day after day, year after year, even when conditions are tough. If the Winter blues are setting in, turn to these proven choices to keep catching fish.

Many anglers quit fishing in the Winter. They turn to the woods or the couch to pass the days until Spring returns. Don’t be that guy! The lakes are incredibly peaceful in Winter and there are BIG bass to be caught! Some days you can still catch them on reaction baits but when the going gets tough, turning to finesse is a sure way to keep getting bit. Tim has a handful of baits including worms, jigs, and flies, that work everywhere he goes.

Below you’ll find a breakdown of all the baits he discussed in the video. We’ve included the rigging, the exact colors he relies on to keep getting bit, and some of the rods and reels he uses to stay successful. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

5 Finesse Tactics For Fall Bass Fishing

When the Fall Transition gets tough, turning to finesse will save the day. It might even get that big kicker bass you’ve been looking for! Tim is an expert with finesse tactics and today he’s discussing the 5 rigs he turns to when the reaction bite shuts down. Do you have a favorite?

Tim’s 5 rigs include a dropshot, shaky head, ned rig, finesse swimbait, and finesse jig. He leans very strongly to the dropshot but each of these options has a key place in the arsenal. Pay attention to the details of his dropshot rigs including different hooks and baits to achieve different actions. While dropshot fishing isn’t glamorous its incredibly effective in the Fall and is capable of fooling the biggest bass in the school.

Below you’ll find links to all of the items discussed in the video. We’ve included color recommendations, weight and size preferences, as well as some of our favorite gear to throw these lures. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Summer Worm Fishing Tricks for Shallow and Deep Water Bass

Are you missing it? There are so many great ways to fish a plastic worm! Come along with Tim as he demonstrates a 2-bait method to maximize your time on the water when finesse fishing for Summer bass. You can fish from 40+ feet all the way up to the water’s edge with these 2 baits rigged a few different ways. You don’t need an entire box of baits to catch Summer bass!

Tim’s 2 favorite baits for this technique are a senko and a Trick Worm (Netbait T-Mac). By adapting the rigging he can fish both of these baits at a variety of depths. When you think senko your mind immediately goes to fishing it weightless around shallow cover but with a little weight (Neko rig) that bait is suddenly effective in 20, 30, even 50 feet of water! The same goes for the Trick Worm. Most guys see a trick worm and think of the floating worm technique but this bait is incredibly effective on a shaky head, Neko, and exposed jighead as well.

Summer worm fishing can be overwhelming. There are so many great baits that will consistently catch fish (and you know we’ll jump down that rabbit whole soon) but it can also be as simple as a couple baits and a couple rigs, to consistently catch fish. Don’t let bass fishing overwhelm you. You can catch these fish and you can do it on a budget. Below are links to the exact baits and rigging methods that Tim was implementing in today’s video. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

How To Catch Bigger Smallmouth (And Largemouth) – Everything You Need To Know – Finesse Bass Fishing

Smallmouth are amazing! They’re aggressive, even in cold water. They’re willing to migrate huge distances for food. When you set the hook they give you a ride that is unrivaled by the other bass. There is little wonder why so many anglers love Smallmouth bass fishing. Targeting these predators requires a finesse touch and some unique gear that is often overlooked for the other bass species.

While you can catch a smallmouth on virtually anything, the fish tend to favor clearer water and a true finesse touch will increase your odds dramatically. In today’s video Tim dives into his favorite finesse tactics and equipment for consistently targeting these bronze backs.

Below is a breakdown of the gear he discussed in order of appearance. The links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and descriptions of each item.

Underwater Sight Fishing – How To Catch More Fish!

Want to catch more fish? Come underwater and watch how these fish interact with our lures around their spawning beds! The fish are biting a jig, dropshot, texas rig, ned rig, and a variety of swimbaits! Whether you’re a beginner or advanced angler, pay close attention to the details about how to avoid short strikes and false bites if you want to become a better angler overnight.

During the spawn, bass are less motivated to feed than other periods. If you haven’t spent much time sight fishing start with this recent Sight Fishing Video to help you avoid common mistakes: https://youtu.be/3pJsNGdv9QM

Because bass are focused on spawning rather than feeding their habits change. They become more protective and aggressive but rarely fully engulf your lure. Knowing how to adapt color, size, and retrieve goes a long way to catching more fish. This is the time of year to catch a new personal best so pay close attention to the details in this video and apply them the next time you’re at the lake.

Below is a breakdown of all the baits (in order of appearance) used in the video. All of the links go directly to Tackle Warehouse where you can see detailed photos and lure descriptions.
