Where Do Bass Go In EARLY Spring? And How To Catch Them Before The PreSpawn!

The Fish are on the move! If your fish haven’t already begun to transition, its coming! If you’re not ready they’ll vanish completely and tracking them down again before the spawn is almost impossible without an understanding of their migration. Where are they headed, where will they stop along the way, and how can you catch them when they do? Come along, and we’ll show you.

Different styles of fisheries progress differently. You need to figure out if you are fishing a river, a Delta, a natural lake, a highland reservoir, or a lowland reservoir. Depending which style you’re on, the movements will vary. Luckily, we’re explaining the movement in each one of these fisheries today. As your fish begin to move, you need to understand their ultimate goal is transition toward spawning flats. With that in mind you can identify the nearest spawning grounds to where your fish have been, then identify the key spots along the way the fish will stop on to feed.

As you’re focusing on fishing the key structures along the migration route there are key baits you should be focusing your time on. Top 5 Baits For Late Winter Bass Fishing!

Its still cold but the fish are getting aggressive! Late Winter is a special time full of big bass and exciting days on the water if you know how to adapt. Sure, you can stick to the same Winter baits you’ve been throwing these past months, but you’re not doing yourself any favors. Its time to adapt, let us show you how.

A lot of anglers get confused about the transitions between late Winter and the prespawn. We’re definitely not in the prespawn yet, water temps are cold (mid-40’s in most of the country and even colder farther North) but the fish can sense the change coming and are beginning to get active despite the cold temperatures. This is the time to set the finesse rods down, pick up the reaction baits, and catch the biggest bass of the year.

We use a handful of very specific baits this time of year. We’ve broken the baits down by style and included some of our favorite models and colors for each category. Late Winter Fishing: A-Rigs On Chickamauga

Come along as we target late Winter largemouth! We’ve got a variety of baits rigged up and 3 different patterns to run but it doesn’t take long for the A-Rig to stand out from the crowd! Watch how small adjustments make all the difference while targeting these Winter Bass.

In that video we discussed how to modify your rigs to get the most action in cold water. All of those tips were in full force this evening as the bass ate right on the twitches of the rig. It was also interesting to note the fish consistently went for the smaller, softer baits instead of the keitechs we typically throw.

Matt adapted with the changing conditions, dialed in the rig, and was able to catch a handful of quality fish in this quick evening session on the Tennessee River. Micro Lure Fishing for Crappie in Shallow Water (Jerkbaits for Panfish)

In this video, Davis Lenzen demonstrates how to use micro crankbaits (jerkbaits) like the Eurotackle Z-spender to catch crappie in shallow water. These are are mixed between pre-spawn, spawn, and post-spawn mode. It is mid May in Wisconsin and water temps are in the low 60 degree range. The micro lure causes a reaction bite when it is twitched and then allowed to pause for a short time period. Crappie are notorious for feeding up in the water column, so as this micro lure suspends and slowly rises, it triggers the fish to bite.

Bass Fishing: Finesse Tips For Fishing Crystal Clear Water!

Struggling to catch bass in crystal clear water? Come along with Tim for a day of clear water bass fishing. He shows the finesse baits he’s using and explains how he downsizes line to adapt to the water conditions. Pay close attention to his color selections and bait sizes as he lures fish into biting despite the tough conditions.

Tim’s first trick to catch clear water fish was to focus on shade pockets. Often the “last shade” in an area will have an active group of fish long after sunny areas have stopped biting. He used a ghost colored S-Waver then dropped down to a finesse head and smaller keitech to coax the bites.

Once the last shade faded away he turned his attention to fishing the “color line” along the shore where light penetration is limited by depth. The color line is an amazing place to find active fish under bright sunny conditions. Finally, after not getting the results he hoped for Tim moved ultra shallow into cover in search of afternoon bass in shady pockets near brush. Today he found those fish spawning but could have caught them a variety of ways under normal circumstances.

Crappie fishing a heated dock

Due to cold temps (14F) I decided to fish for crappie in the heated dock system at Point View Resort on Lake of the Ozarks. I use the dock shooter rod by ACC Crappie Stix and a hair jig by PICO lures to land a few crappie during an early morning fishing session.

Spring Bass Fishing Gear Review – Top New Baits and Rods For 2020!

A TON of awesome new baits and gear have already hit the market this Spring! Between the Bassmaster Classic and the start of prime fishing season across the south, the influx of new offerings is crazy! Today we’re wading through the new gear in search of the best of the best. We’ve tried a huge variety of baits and gear and compiled a short list of items that are worth taking a serious look at.

Today’s video is focused around baits and equipment that will have a tangible impact on your fishing. Crankbait rods are one of the most difficult selections an angler can make because different sizes and styles of crankbaits require such different equipment to maximize their potential. The Intenza comes in at a budget-friendly price and is probably the most adaptable crankbait rod we’ve used to date. Did He Catch A 10 lb Bass?? Spring Crankbait Bass Fishing!!!

Matt caught a monster bass on a crankbait! Crankbaits are a great way to cover water and catch bass in Spring. If you know how to adapt them to changing conditions they’re an excellent way to specifically target GIANT bass. Come along as Matt shows cast to catch footage of this big Clearlake bass then explains exactly why he caught it and how you can do the same.

We began teaching how to use the Tactical DD Crankbait to specifically target big bass back in November. Since that time a TON of big fish have been landed across the country. Not all crankbaits are created equal in cold water but once you understand the differences and how to apply baits with key vibrations to your fishing, your catch rate on bigger bass will increase.

Landing giant bass on light line isn’t just about choosing the right bait, you’ll also need the right equipment and a very patient approach to successfully battle a big fish on light tackle. Take your time, stay calm, and your new personal best could be just a cast away. Below is a breakdown of all the gear we used in the video along with some additional baits and gear that we recommend for cold water and prespawn crankbait fishing.
