Finding Crappie Deep? Use this RIG (30 Day Challenge ep. 11)

Crappie fishing in the fall can be a lot of fun. When crappie move to deeper water this time of year, there a number of rigs you can tie on to catch them. One rig that allows you to fish deep and cover water is the drop shot rig. In this video I tie the drop shot rig with a #4 drop shot octopus hook from ZoneLoc and tip it with a white/chartreuse Uppercut from Crappie Monster.

Drift Fishing for Crappie with a FLOATING Jig (30 Day Challenge ep.10)

The simplest method to fishing in a boat is drift fishing. Today I use a floating jig tipped with a live minnow to catch crappie suspended over 19-22ft of water. This is weighted by a bullet weight and swivel attached to the main line.

Simple Crappie Rig will FILL the livewell FAST! (30 day challenge ep. 6)

In episode 6 of the 30 day challenge, I use scent rings made by Pico Lures on a double jig crappie setup. The double jig crappie rig is easy to tie as it consists of only two loop knots. This double jig rig is a great way to fill the livewell or bucket fast and helps cover more water. By using two jigs and two colors, an angler can help narrow down what the crappie are will to bite.

Catch suspended crappie using under-spin jigs (30 day challenge ep.5)

In this episode of the 30 day challenge, I fish for suspended crappie in 20-24ft of water. The aggressive crappie were chasing large schools of baitfish across open water transitions. Garmin Livescope helped single out the larger fish and helped place the Pete’s Tackle Shop 2″ slab grabbers in front of the crappie’s mouth.

8 Year Old Catches GIANT Smallmouth In Crystal CLEAR Water!

Today we’ve got 8 year old JD on the boat with us and he’s ready to catch BIG Smallmouth! We’re on Lake Michigan and the bass have moved up on shallow rock reefs and sand flats where you can see them in the clear water. Some of them are shallow, others are in 9-12 feet of water but it doesn’t matter, you can see them as if the water wasn’t there at all. The fish are BIG and they’re aggressive, let’s go fishing!

Fishing clear water like this requires a finesse touch. Tim and JD focus on a combination of finesse swimbaits and dropshot to catch these bass. In addition to the small baits, light line is critical to consistently fooling these fish. Lines that would be no issue in typical lakes will scare these fish before the bait even reaches the bottom. The bass can see both the line and the shadow of the line as it sinks, and both are enough to scare them off.

Below is a breakdown of the baits and equipment the guys were using to catch these fish. If you want to to target big smallmouth (or any other bass) in crystal clear water, finesse tackle is a great place to start. Finesse Swimbaits For GIANT Summer Bass! (Michigan Road Trip)

Come along for a day of fishing for BIG bass with little swimbaits. The guys face brutal conditions (post front and COLD wind in the middle of Summer) but the fish don’t care. The giants start biting right away and with some exploring and fine tuning the guys are able to catch an incredible bag of Summer time Smallmouth!

The guys are out on the road exploring new water. Today they dropped in on unfamiliar lake with a goal of locating big summertime bass. It took no time at all to catch two giant bass but the duo didn’t stop there, they continued to adapt and explore new areas making sure they maximize their time on the water. They used a variety of unique baits and colors to continue getting bit through the wind and changing conditions.

Below is a breakdown of the baits the guys were using. We included sizes, weights, and colors since they differed from some of our typical offerings. We’ve found on multiple occasions that these brighter, bolder colors work exceptionally well on smallmouth, especially in the wind. This video shows the afternoon fishing trip with myself and Ken from HookCityTV. We used the Garmin Livescope to find crappie submerged brush piles and large rock piles while trying to catch the largest fish in the school. Our Crappie setup consisted of the 12ft ACC Crappie Stix jig rod, 1000 size reels, and 2 inch swimbaits. I was setting the hook on so many crappie that when I switched hands to adjust the livescope, I set the hook on the livescope!

Use Side Imaging to find Pre Spawn Crappie | Crappie fishing Lake of the Ozarks

In this video I explore new water on lake of the Ozarks in search of pre-spawn crappie. During the early part of the pre-spawn season, crappie will suspend near the mouths (around points) and in the middle of creek channels. Side Imaging is must when trying to find these suspended fish, crappie will show up as bright dots or short lines. Fish are easiest to spot when scanning over a soft bottom (mud/muck) like the middle of creek channels.

Catching 11lbs of SLAB Crappie | Crappie Fishing Lake of the Ozarks

On Day 3 of the Lake of the Ozarks crappie fishing trip, Kyler Beckmann and Davis Lenzen (Flopping Crappie) spider rig the edges of creek channels to find the pre-spawn crappie feeding on shad. They used milk and chartreuse colored jigs while trolling at speeds between 0.1-0.7mph to trigger these slab crappie to strike.
