Late Winter Fishing: A-Rigs On Chickamauga

In that video we discussed how to modify your rigs to get the most action in cold water. All of those tips were in full force this evening as the bass ate right on the twitches of the rig. It was also interesting to note the fish consistently went for the smaller, softer baits instead of the keitechs we typically throw.

Matt adapted with the changing conditions, dialed in the rig, and was able to catch a handful of quality fish in this quick evening session on the Tennessee River. Clear Water Bass Fishing Tricks! How To Catch Bass In Crystal Clear Water!

Clear water fishing scares a lot of people! Unless you’ve had a lot of rain, a lot of our fisheries get clear this time of year. When that visibility increases a lot of anglers lose confidence in their ability to catch bass. Maybe the fish see the line, maybe they see you, what can you do to keep catching them? Its not as tough as you think, and the answers may be VERY DIFFERENT than what you’re expecting!

“Clear Water” doesn’t always mean 10 or 20 feet of visibility, this can even happen when your fishery is usually muddy and suddenly has 2 or 3 feet of visibility. Step one is to stay very quiet. Don’t make excess noise, avoid vibrations, and you’ll get more bites. Step two, target the visibility line (AKA “color line”). Step three is to use lighter line for finesse techniques. If you’re not going lighter, go faster, that keeps the fish from having time to inspect your offering. Step four, shade and wind are your friend. Focus on dark edges that fish can use to ambush food, or days when waves are breaking up the overall visibility.

Winter fishing can be very challenging but mastering your electronics will make it much easier! If you’re not catching fish you start wondering if they’re even around, if you’re in the right part of the lake, or if its what you’re using. Step one to consistent Winter fishing for any predatory fish (bass, panfish, catfish, etc…) is to locate baitfish. Fishing Below Freezing For Big Bass! Chickamauga In Winter!

Its Frozen solid! Its 21 degrees but Matt and Tim are back on the water for some Winter bass fishing. Come along for a frozen day on Chickamauga as the guys put together a really nice bag of fish. They’re throwing reaction baits despite the frigid temperatures and its working!

Winter fishing doesn’t have to be boring. The guys were faced with brutal post-front, frozen conditions but were able to power through it with a blade bait and an Alabama Rig. If you’re willing to cover water and build patterns, Winter fishing can be a blast! The lakes are peaceful, the fish are big, and when you put the right reaction baits in front of them, they’re aggressive!

How To Catch Bass In Cold Water Without Slowing Down!

Winter fishing doesn’t have to be boring! So many anglers have fallen into the trap of slow, methodical fishing in the Winter. Did you know you can trigger a feed response by speeding up? Its true! Matt explains the keys to getting consistent bites in the coldest Winter temperatures without ever slowing down.

The key to consistent Winter bites with reaction baits is understanding what it takes to “trigger” a feed response. Its also key to understand all baits are not created equal. Cold water separates the perfectly balanced, perfectly tuned baits, from the endless stream of new tackle hitting the market every year. If you want to be consistent in Winter, fish the right baits with proper technique and its only a matter of time before you start catching quality fish.

There are 3 very different approaches to Winter. You can swimbait for a giant, finesse fish for consistent action, or power fish with bite triggering retrieves to try and find the best of both worlds. Whichever path you choose, Winter fishing is worse the effort. Its incredibly peaceful, there is minimal boat traffic, and the odds of catching a big bass are very high.

We’re back on the water at Chickamauga and the bass are biting! Most anglers think of January as finesse fishing time but that’s not what we’re doing! While finesse can be effective, there is something rewarding about successfully power fishing in cold water. Come along as we throw everything from crankbaits to A-rigs in search of Winter bass.

There are 3 ways to consistently catch fish in cold water. Two weeks ago Matt talked about the power of a swimbait for drawing bites from large fish. Last week Tim discussed the benefits of finesse fishing and how you can consistently catch fish in Winter. Today we’re demonstrating how to power fish in Winter by eliciting a core feed response in the bass. Its not about whether or not they want to bite, its about reacting to a fast moving, erratic bait.

3 Ned Rig Tricks For Winter Fishing!

The Ned Rig is amazing in the Winter Time! Fishing in the cold can be tough, especially if you’re second guessing your lure choice. With new brands piling onto the Ned Rig bandwagon every day, its hard to know which baits to focus on and how to dial them in for cold water fishing. In today’s video Tim explains how to adjust your weight, how to choose the right ned bait, and when to fish these presentations.

On the surface, ned rig fishing is very simple. Grab a ned bait, grab a light jighead, throw it out and try not to move it. As the technique has morphed the last few years so has its ability to catch fish in a variety of conditions. Focusing in on details like the weight of the head, whether or not your bait floats, how much it moves underwater when you shake it, are all key pieces of the puzzle. While the Z Man Finesse TRD remains the gold standard, there are so many other amazing baits that will help you get bit in changing conditions.

Today’s Buyer’s Guide is all about dropshotting! The dropshot is a reliable way to catch bass throughout the year. Paired with the right baits, it can produce big bass as well. We’ve selected a handful of baits for this video that work exceptionally well at different times of year and in different conditions. Come along as we dial in the dropshot.

This rig can excel when the water is cold. When nothing else is working the dropshot can keep getting bit. The key is knowing which baits will give you the action you’re looking for, and how to work them. A lot of anglers over-work the dropshot, meaning they shake it way too much. In the cold months in particular, the dropshot is all about a soft touch and subtle presentation. As the water warms in Spring, you can mix up the presentation with more movement and different baits to continue seeing success.
