How To Catch Bass In Cold Water Without Slowing Down!

Winter fishing doesn’t have to be boring! So many anglers have fallen into the trap of slow, methodical fishing in the Winter. Did you know you can trigger a feed response by speeding up? Its true! Matt explains the keys to getting consistent bites in the coldest Winter temperatures without ever slowing down.

The key to consistent Winter bites with reaction baits is understanding what it takes to “trigger” a feed response. Its also key to understand all baits are not created equal. Cold water separates the perfectly balanced, perfectly tuned baits, from the endless stream of new tackle hitting the market every year. If you want to be consistent in Winter, fish the right baits with proper technique and its only a matter of time before you start catching quality fish.

There are 3 very different approaches to Winter. You can swimbait for a giant, finesse fish for consistent action, or power fish with bite triggering retrieves to try and find the best of both worlds. Whichever path you choose, Winter fishing is worse the effort. Its incredibly peaceful, there is minimal boat traffic, and the odds of catching a big bass are very high.

The New Year is here and we’re getting back on the road! 2020 was crazy for all of us. Some lost loved ones, others lost jobs, some found human kindness where it was least expected, and a few stuck some big fish in the midst of the chaos. What does 2021 hold for TacticalBassin? Let’s find out!

We’re getting back out on the road in 2021. Living in a new part of the country, we’ve got all kinds of new goals. From big bass, to big striper and musky, the options are almost endless. We have plans to fish across the South, put more time into Florida, and even fish our way up the Eastern seaboard. If we’ve never been to a lake near you before, you just might see us this year!

Sonar Basics: How To Identify Fish (Bass, Panfish, and Baitfish)

Ever wondered if you’re really seeing fish? Which lines and marks are bass? Can you tell the difference between crappie, bluegill, white bass, etc? Which marks are fish and which ones are just stumps or rocks? Come along on the water in real time as we idle through creek channels and flats and identify the different fish we come across with our electronics.

Modern electronics give anglers an incredible advantage over the fish. Even with the most basic units you can now quickly identify active fish, even on a lake you’re unfamiliar with. Of course nicer electronics offer increased sensitivity and functionality but none of that matters until you understand what you’re seeing on the screen. Tim has spent countless hours behind the wheel analyzing fish positioning on structure and today he’s giving you the quick basics you’ll need to go out on the water and confidently locate fish on your own.

Fluke Fishing Tricks (Double Fluke Rig) – Catch 2 Bass At Once!!

These fish are smashing the Double Fluke Rig! Matt is on the water chasing a fluke bite (soft jerkbait) and the fish are chewing the double fluke AKA Donkey Rig. If you’ve never thrown a double fluke, its a great option for schooling bass. Matt catches a bunch of fish then sits down and shows exactly how he builds and fishes this rig. Don’t miss the end when he catches a double!

The concept behind the double fluke rig is very similar to an A-rig. You’ve got multiple baits working in unison to trigger a feed response. When you hook up you’ve got the added bonus of a potential double up at any time because the 2nd bait is still free swinging. Building and fishing the rig are both simple enough but if you really want to fine tune it, we’ve got some tweaks for you.

We use different size leaders, different hooks, and different baits to get our baits to run in 2 different water columns (one below the other) to dial in the bite and keep the fish eating our mainline bait first. By changing the hook placement or by switching between the Zoom and Strike King baits you can get the baits to run even farther apart. If you want the whole rig to run deeper, using larger swivels will weigh down the nose of the rig and help it maintain depth after you let it sink at the start of your cast.

We're Moving! Huge News!! (Not Click Bait)

We’re moving! Clearlake has been an amazing home lake but its time for a change! Where are we headed? Why are we moving? Find out the details! We’ve spent several years scouring the country in search of a new home that would balance family, fishing, and life. It was a very tough decision but we’re thrilled with our choice!

After nearly 25,000 miles on the road over 4 road trips we scratched dozens of places off our list. We narrowed the search down to Tennessee after discovering it had the perfect balance of quality of life for our families and quality of fisheries. After an extensive search we settled on Lake Chickamauga near Chattanooga as our new home lake. We’re thrilled to head out on this new journey and look forward to bringing you along for the ride. We’ll be exploring new waters, learning new techniques, and taking you along for all of it! We can’t wait to pit ourselves against some of the greatest fisheries in the country and break them down with a Tactical perspective.

To the anglers in California, we’ll still see you regularly. We’ve already got trips planned back home and will continue to fish and film on local fisheries on a regular basis. To the angler’s in corners of the country we’ve yet to visit, your turn is coming! Now you know why we’ve been so focused in the midwest. Once we’ve settled into our new homes we’ll get right back on the road to visit a fishery near you!

We're Moving! Huge News!! (Not Click Bait)

We’re moving! Clearlake has been an amazing home lake but its time for a change! Where are we headed? Why are we moving? Find out the details! We’ve spent several years scouring the country in search of a new home that would balance family, fishing, and life. It was a very tough decision but we’re thrilled with our choice!

After nearly 25,000 miles on the road over 4 road trips we scratched dozens of places off our list. We narrowed the search down to Tennessee after discovering it had the perfect balance of quality of life for our families and quality of fisheries. After an extensive search we settled on Lake Chickamauga near Chattanooga as our new home lake. We’re thrilled to head out on this new journey and look forward to bringing you along for the ride. We’ll be exploring new waters, learning new techniques, and taking you along for all of it! We can’t wait to pit ourselves against some of the greatest fisheries in the country and break them down with a Tactical perspective.

To the anglers in California, we’ll still see you regularly. We’ve already got trips planned back home and will continue to fish and film on local fisheries on a regular basis. To the angler’s in corners of the country we’ve yet to visit, your turn is coming! Now you know why we’ve been so focused in the midwest. Once we’ve settled into our new homes we’ll get right back on the road to visit a fishery near you!
